Peace Hospice Care News - Spring 2018

Autumn 2015

Spring 2018 Last summer, we felt honoured to host the wedding of one of our patients, Mervyn (Merv) Doidge, to his fiancé Tracey. We’re so grateful to Tracey for sharing their story. Her words show the profound difference you help make to people at the most difficult times. “Merv passed away last August at Peace Hospice Care after his battle with a rare condition, Central Nervous System Lymphoma. This devastating illness left him unable to walk and impaired his speech – so frustrating for him as he was a fit guy, running the London Marathon and climbing Kilimanjaro in the past. “Merv was a genuine, easy-going, hard-working man and we had a bright future together. We’d been together for 8 years and recently moved into our dream home. His friends and parents say they’d never seen him so happy.

I am forever indebted to them. Thank you for helping to support their work.”

“All the staff at the Hospice were amazing. There was always a hug or a shoulder to cry on if needed, and the times when Merv and I wanted to be alone were respected. It’s truly an
